Puppy Orientation
Gabriel and I took Maggie to her first "Puppy Orientation" class last Friday night. What a riot! She's never had so many treats in her whole life. I thought for sure I'd be up all night with a sick pup. She certainly was well behaved though! We worked on come and sit (which she already does well) and, a new one, down. She needs a little work there. Of course the best part was when we took all the pups off their leashes and they ran around chasing each other. Soooo sweet. We also worked on retrieving a little over the weekend and I remain quite impressed at how hard she'll work for food! I'm so happy to be living with a pup again. As much as my guys love me, they just don't seem nearly as happy to see me as Maggs does. I just went out to get the mail and came back in. It was like she hadn't seen me all day. It felt like she was saying "Yippee! It's you again! I missed you! I love you! I'm so glad you're here!". And, you know, the truth is, I feel the same way every time I see her. :)

Last puppy shots!

Finally Maggie got to go see the vet for her last round of puppy shots. Glad that's over! The truly remarkable thing is that she now weighs 26 pounds! She's now 15 weeks old, healthy and strong. Here's the pup in Olson Mills Nature Preserve. She is loving her walks/ runs these days, as are we! Maggie and Gabriel have an adorable tradition developing in which they race the last stretch home. Inevitably one or more of them tumble and fall. It's really quite a delight to watch. Gabriel usually comes out victorious, but I may need to begin to prepare him for the future. Let's see, if Maggie is gaining 3 pounds a week, she could surpass him in weight (and speed) in approximately 16 weeks! Impressive math skills, eh?

The Huron River and muddy doggies
Despite the almost 90 degree heat, Maggie was hesitant to swim with reckless abandon. Millie, on the other hand, is an ol' pro at this game. She didn't hesitate a bit; the stick was just added incentive. I coaxed Maggie in with treats and she went out to her belly, but the real fun was rolling around in the mud with Millie.
Global warming?
I don't know if it's global warming or not, but it's been an amazingly hot October so far. Today is the 8th and it's supposed to hit 90 degrees. During our morning walk the other day we stopped at the gardens at Leslie Science Center so I could get Maggie a drink at the hose. I found a large clay pot drainage dish and filled it up. Maggie took one lick and then lay down in it! I wish I had had my camera with me. About a week and a half ago we took the pup to Pickerel Lake in the hopes that we could entice her to swim. Unfortunately her fear outweighed her temptation, but there were no other dogs there to show her the ropes. We're going to head out to Barton Pond this afternoon with her pup friend Millie and see what happens! I'll report back...

Maggie is 13 weeks old today!

Maggie's Tails is the perfect name for this blog, given the energy in which she was chasing her tail this morning on our walk in the woods. While my son and I were trying to go forward, Maggie was going in circles. Very cute...
We got our darling pup when she was 7 weeks old and she is a joy! She is trouble too, but mostly a joy. Since there are "tails" worth telling each and every day, I thought it would be fun to start this blog to tell at least some of them. Check back often and see what she's up to and how she's grown! And feel free to share your own fun pup moments!
